Will this gold last?
A new color is supposed to be introduced in the iPhone 16 Pro line, but the innovation is facing criticism from consumers.
The rumored bronze color — dubbed “Desert Titanium” — is supposed to replace the previously offered Blue Titanium as the fourth color available for the much-anticipated iPhone 16 Pro, which is expected to be released this fall.
Leaker Sonny Dickson posted an image on X last week showing the four possible colors of the iPhone 16 Pro, including the gold iteration. Another well-known leaker, Majin Bu, also posted a photo of alleged iPhone 16 Pro camera lens bezels just a few days later, with a set that appears to be a darker gold than the previously rumored rose gold.
“There are four colors in total in the iPhone 16 Pro lineup: white, black, gold, and gray,” the user wrote. “The color of the desert titanium is a kind of dark gold, similar to the old purple color, relatively sober and deep.”
While Apple is known for releasing a new color for its latest iPhone Pro models, Digital Trends writer Christine Romero-Chan called the bronze shade “the worst iPhone color” she’s ever seen.
“I really hope that what we see in the fake photo is not what we’re getting because, to put it bluntly, it looks terrible,” she wrote, adding that she’s holding out hope that the leak “is fake. “
Apple customers complained about the rumored new color in the comments of a recent TikTok by Tom’s Guide.
“Ewwwww,” one person said simply.
“Ear wax gold,” quipped another.
“That color sucks,” one user complained.
“It’s st coffee,” someone else wrote.
Like any new Apple product, rumors have swirled about the upcoming iPhone 16 models and the subsequent release of iOS 18.
CNET reports that there are rumors of larger screens on the Pro models, new camera features, and upgraded processor chips.
More importantly, Apple announced that it was planning to release “Apple Intelligence,” the tech giant’s own AI software powered by OpenAI, to its devices that would improve Siri, messaging, photos and other functions. Some features, however, may be behind a paywall, according to some reports.
The new operating system is also supposed to have a “Distraction Control” feature, which allows users to remove unwanted ads and pop-ups that interfere with their web browsing experience.
