Hugh Hewitt, a conservative veteran commentator who left the Washington Post in a Huff last fall after an argument in the air with left -wing colleagues, joined Fox News Media as a contributor, the network reported on Thursday.
Hewitt will provide political analysis on all Fox News platforms and is set to make his first appearance in Thursday’s edition of the evening news end “Special Report with Bret Baier”.
Fox News, who shares common ownership with The Post, issued a statement citing Hewitt’s experience as a national trade union of radio shows, as well as a contributing columnist for several publications.
Hewitt’s arrival at Fox comes a few months after he left the Washington Post “Look First” online program group after a light exchange with liberal columnists Jonathan Capehert and Ruth Marcus for allegations around President Donald Trump and the latest elections.
During the broadcast, Capehert had asked if Trump was “throwing grounds” to oppose election by mentioning alleged irregularities in county bucks, without.
Marcus agreed, saying the former president had been prepared for such a challenge for months.
Hewitt tried to respond, but was interrupted by Capehert, who insisted that Marcus finish her view.
When it was given the opportunity to speak, Hewitt defended the legal efforts of the Trump campaign, stressing that a judge had overlooked the Republicans in extending polling stations in the Buck district after voters were reported to return after a period 5 in the morning.
“We are news people, even though we have thoughts, and we have to report the whole story if we create part of the story,” Hewitt said.
“So, yes, he is upset for Bucks County, but he was right and he won in court. That’s the story.”
Capehert then accused Hewitt of spreading misinformation.
“I do not appreciate that I have been lectured on reporting when, Hugh. Many times you come here saying many things that are not actually based,” he said.
The remark seemed to be the last straw. Hewitt tore his ear and stated, “I will not come back, Jonathan. I am done.”
Hewitt’s departure from Washington Post preceded a major shock in the newspaper, which has seen a significant change under owner Jeff Bezos.
Marcus last month resigned from her position as an editor after she said that a column criticizing Bezos for adjusting the editorial site was prominent by his senior publication executive.
At the end of February, Bezos announced that he will reorient the Washington Post editorial website in order to obtain “personal freedoms and free markets” – an action that promoted the resignation of the opinion editor David Shipley.
Dozens of prominent employees have left the newspaper in the wake of its controversial decision to block its editorial board from the publication of the approval of the democratic candidate, the then President of Vice Kamala Harris, shortly before the November 5 elections.
