Signal, telegram and WhatsApp are not built the same – here’s the messaging app is safer, according to experts

“In general, the signal is widely considered the safest application of consumer messages because third parties can verify its security claims, and the company has no access to metadata for your conversations,” Inc.

When compared to rivals like WhatsApp, Whittaker argued that competitors do not measure signal safety.

“Neither consumer nor WhatsApp business protect intimate metades – like the list of contacts, who is messages that, when, profile photography, etc. and, like all companies collecting data to start, they turn this important, revealing data,” she wrote on X.

The exact content of the messages sent with WhatsApp is really encrypted, but metadata – including recipient information – is not, Inc. In fact, it is saved by WhatsApp, a company owned by meta.

Imessage, the messaging system used for communication between Apple devices, is the “best and safest option” – as long as you are contacting only other people with the iPhone.

According to Inc., Apple codes individually in group conversations, which “is technically safer” than the Signal method.

“Apple also says its encryption is created for computing after Quantum,” reports Inc.

“The idea is that quantum computers will eventually be able to break enough encryption enough to read protected messages, but Apple is designing its algorithm to resist those types of future skills.”

The disadvantages for imessage, however, are that the texts between an iPhone and the Android device are significantly less secure, relying on RCS on the best case scenario, or SMS at worst. No method is coded, for Inc.

Moreover, relying on iCloud on text copying conversations – without advanced data protection – means that your messages are stored on Apple servers and can return to law enforcement if the company is required.

The telegram is also a popular messaging service, but communication is only coded while in transit reports, Inc., and is encoded on telegram servers, but “makes your messages tangible by anyone who has access to those servers”.

“It is worth noting, however, that it doesn’t matter how private or safe it is to encryption on a messaging platform – if you include someone in a group conversation and send a message to that group, they will be able to read the message,” said Inc.

“Or, in other words, the problem here has nothing to do with encryption, and all that has to do with human error.”
