MSNBC host Nicolle Wallace slammed White House press secretary Caroline Leavitt, accusing him of being “either tragicly uninformed or lying” after Leavitt claims the fees are in a tax cut for Americans.
Wallace’s comments came in response to a switch on a White House press conference, in which Leavitt collided with the Associated Press journalist Josh Boak for the economic impact of tariffs.
The confrontation highlighted the increasing tensions of President Trump’s trade policies, which have raised financial markets and caused reactions from economic experts.
During the press conference, Boak asked Leavitt if Trump’s tariffs constituted a tax increase for US consumers.
Leavitt firmly rejected that notion, replying: “He is not actually implementing tax increases. Tariffs are a tax increase for foreign countries that, again, have taken us away.”
“Tariffs are a tax reduction for the American people, and the president is a lawyer for tax cuts,” Leavitt said.
Boak pushed her back, pressing Leavitt if she had ever personally paid a fee.
“They are not charged with foreign companies; they are accused of importers,” he objected.
Leavitt withdrew, saying, “I think it’s offensive you are trying to try my knowledge of the economy and the decision that this president has made. Now I regret that I asked an Associated Press question.”
Later that evening at MSNBC, Wallace aired the exchange before she offered her annoying criticism of Leavitt’s remarks.
“I mean, she is repentant in repentance and repentance and insult, but she is either tragically uninformed or lying,” Wallace said.
“There is no economist who has been tapped to sit in Donald Trump’s cabinet who would testify under the oath of what she just said,” Tariffs are a tax cut for the American people. “The opposite is the reality.”
Wallace visitor Annie Lowry of the Atlantic agreed, saying tariffs function as a tax on domestic consumers than foreign manufacturers.

Tariffs, a long policy tool used by governments to collect income and protect local industries, has become a central pillar of Trump’s economic strategy since its return on January 20th.
His administration has aggressively expanded the tariffs, turning on fresh trade disputes with the main allies.
Recently, a trade conflict has exploded between the US and the European Union after the Bloc announced revenge measures in response to new US tariffs.
On April 1, the EU is set to set tasks for various US industrial and agricultural goods, a response to Trump’s decision to increase tariffs on all EU steel and aluminum imports to 25%.
Scaling has shaken the financial markets.
On Tuesday, the industrial average of Dow Jones plunged 478 points, while S&P 500 fell 10 percent under its record high.
The volatility intensified after Trump suggested that he could impose additional tariffs in Canada in response to the threat of Ontario Doug Ford’s prime minister for electricity exports to the northern United States.
Despite the stock market riots, Trump dismissed concerns as he spoke to reporters on the southern lawn.
“The markets will go up and they will go down, but we have to rebuild our country. Our country has been stripped of its work and factories,” he said.
The president also received a slide in the previous administration, calling President Joe Biden’s economic policies a “false economy”.
He argued that tariffs will turn investment in US businesses, injecting trillions of dollars into the domestic economy.
“I am very optimistic about the country. We will have the biggest markets we have ever had, ”the president said.
Trump acknowledged the possibility of short -term economic pain, but insisted it was necessary to restore the predominance of American production.
“I think our country had to do that. We had to do that,” he said. “Other places have removed our businesses. They have taken our jobs.”
