NY Times tells the writers of the editorial board: accept the new position or get purchases

The New York Times is reorganizing its operations in the public part – reducing the frequency of its editorials as it reduces its list of editorial board writers, according to a report.

Ms. Gray reportedly offering some of her members of the editorial board new jobs within the opinion section or purchase packages if they decide to leave the company.

Mara Gay, which is often seen in the left MSNBC news channel; Brent Staples, Jesse Wegman and Farah Stockman are members of the editorial board, who were given the opportunity to accept a purchase, the traffic light page reported on Monday.

“The publication of the least high quality editorials, the thesis goes, will lead to more attention of the audience,” according to the traffic light.

Times is also cheating possible changes in his approval policy, including the support of candidates in races across the country, according to the traffic light.

A Times spokesman confirmed the accuracy of the traffic lights and did not accept further comment.

Opinion editor Kathleen Kingsbury, Deputy Editor Patrick Healy and Publisher AG Sulzberger are thinking of restructuring the Department of Opinions with more editors participating in the editorial board while reducing the number of staff dedicated exclusively to write editorials, according to traffic lights.

Earlier this year, the long optional columnist Paul Krugman came out public with his criticism of Kingsbury and Healy-accusing the two leaders of effectively censoring his opinion before leaving the newspaper at the end of last year.

Krugman told Columbia Journalism Review that the two editorial bosses were “practicing a heavy hand in what came out under my name” and as a result he “approached Mondays and Thursday (when his columns appeared) with dread”.

In the days of his column appeared on the pages of Times, he “often passed the afternoon in rage” after publication, according to CJR.

Krugman, who continued to launch his independent newspaper on the substance platform, blamed Healy, who was his deputy editor of the public.

The last straw for Krugman was when he was told by Kingsbury that his production would be reduced from two columns a week to just one.

Krugman also claimed that Kingsbury wanted to kill his newspaper, but Times opposed that assertion.

Krugman claimed he was being separated and that his former colleagues on Times’ opinion site – including Thomas Friedman, Maureen Dowd and Gail Collins – did not undergo the same editorial control.

But Friedman, Dowd and Collins supported Healy and Kingsbury.

Kingsbury told CJR that the Times columnists have been edited more since it followed James Bennet as an editor of opinions in 2020.

Bennet withdrew as the editor of the New York Times Opinion in June 2020 after facing great criticism of publishing an OP-ED by Senator Tom Cotton (R-ARK).

The part, which argued in favor of establishing military force against protesters following the assassination of George Floyd, sparked significant reactions from left -wing employees, who claimed it endangered black journalists.
