Democratic lawmakers faced criticism this week for their behavior during President Donald Trump’s speech at a joint congress session.
Their protests, the refusal to get caught in the main moments, and the subsequent comments attracted criticism from the Republicans and some in their party.
Producer “Jesse Watters Primetet” Johnny Belisario traveled to Capitol Hill to find Democratic lawmakers and ask why they refused to stay and applaud for non -partisan moments.
“You didn’t stand for anything,” noted Belisario Senator of New Jersey Cory Booker.
“The president took before the American people and did not talk about how he could lower the prices of food items,” Booker replied.
Other Democratic lawmakers expressed the disappointment that Trump failed to address the issues they thought were important.
When asked why she did not applaud to invite the speech, including the mother of the killed Georgia Nursing student, Laken Riley, the Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren refused to respond.
“I made applause when he said the United States supported Ukraine,” Warren said.
However, when she was crushed for why she did not try for Riley’s mother, she refused to respond.
Pennsylvania Senator John Fetterman admitted that some democratic protests may not have been well received during the speech.
“I don’t think this was the best look for our holiday last night,” he admitted.
In addition to Riley’s family, Trump also honored a 13-year-old brain cancer survivor with a secret service symbol, applauded the work of the first lady Melania Trump against Deepfake and Revenge Porn and announced the admission of a high school student in West Point.
The moments did not cause ovations by the Democrats.
One of the most visible moments of the evening came when Texas Congressman Al Green was removed from the room after an explosion on the floor of the house.
His actions led to a censorship by the house lawmakers, with 10 Democrats who joined the Republicans to vote for the sentence.
Belisario went to Green’s office, but said he was “extinguished” by staff. He also could not find rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, DN.Y., but added a note to its office door.
Beyond vocal protests, some Democrats engaged in more delicate forms of disputes during the speech.
Lawmakers held driving with messages that criticized Trump’s policies, including signs reading “Save Medicaid” and “Musk Steals”.
Even late night host, Stephen Colbert, whose show often matches liberal views, ridiculed the driving protest, bearing his sign of reading, “Try doing something”.
Rep. California Adam Schiff completely rejected the president’s speech, refusing to comment on the lack of applause for Riley’s mother.
“There was nothing that the president had to say it was either factual or true,” Schiff said.
Meanwhile, a CBS News study found that 76% of viewers, who were mostly Republicans, adopted Trump’s speech, citing his focus on lowering government waste, setting tariffs and securing border.
When asked about the results of the survey, Schiff remained skeptical.
“I don’t know what speech they were looking at … really it’s not worth looking at,” he said.
Belisario traced rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn. While she went to an elevator.
“You have to leave me,” the congressman told him, as the door was closed.
