The owner of the Washington Post Jeff Bezos and two of his best lieutenants bypassed a film show about the legendary paper publisher Katharine Graham, according to a report.
Will Lewis, the current publisher and CEO of The Washington Post, and executive editor Matt Murray were significantly absent from the premiere of “Making Katharine Graham” at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC, on Sunday evening, reported the New York Times.
Bezos was also not there – instead chose to attend the Academy Awards in Los Angeles.
A Washington Post spokesman refused to comment, but a source close to the situation told New York Post that both Murray and Lewis informed the organizers that they would not be able to participate.
Murray had lost work last week due to a period with the flu, sources for the New York Post said.
Those who participated in the star -studied incident included Microsoft Bill Gates co -founder, Carlyle David Rubenstein chief and journalists Andrea Mitchell, Judy Woodruff and Kaitlan Collins.
Graham, who died in 2001, led the Washington Post from 1963 to 1991. During that time, the newspaper evolved from a local outlet to the country’s impact after reporting to the Watergate scandal, as well as the publication of Pentagon newspapers.
No-facilities from the letter leadership were considered apparent given that the newspaper has been in a state of turmoil in the last few months-caused in the most part of the editorial changes made by Bezos.
Mogul Amazon, who bought Washington Post from the Graham family in 2013 for $ 250 million in money, announced last week that the newspaper’s thought section would be committed to protecting for “personal freedoms” and “free markets”.
Mass prompted the resignation of David Shipley, editor of the newspaper’s opinion. It is reported that more than 75,000 readers canceled their agreements.
Bezos also blocked his editorial board to publish the approval of Kamala Harris, the former vice president and the democratic nominees, just weeks before the November 5 elections.
The measure led tens of thousands of readers to cancel their reconciliations.
Bezo’s decision to hire Lewis as a publisher also met with plot from editorial staff.
After taking over as a publisher in June last year, Lewis named Murray as an executive editor, replacing Sally Buzbee.
Lewis and Murray were both top leaders in the Wall Street Journal before they were brought to the Washington Post from Bezos. The newspaper is the edition of the New York Post sister.
The sudden passage from Buzbee to Murray aroused riots between employees, especially due to the lack of an official process of research and perception that internal candidates were overlooked.
