The chairman of the Federal Communications Commission Brendan Carr on Thursday opened an investigation into the diversity practices in Verizon and raised the continued attempt by the telecommunications company to buy border communications.
Carr, a Republican appointed by President Donald Trump last month, earlier this month told NBC News-Parent Comcast that he was opening a similar investigation in promoting the company for diversity, capital and inclusion programs. Verizon is awaiting FCC approval for his purchase of a Frontier $ 9.6 billion.
“To help solve the FCC on these issues, please address the agency personnel who have worked on transactions pending Verizon on FCC,” Carr wrote. “They are the FCC personnel most popular with Verizon operations because of their union review activity.”
Carr criticized Verizon for his continued promotion of diversity, equality and inclusion programs.
Verizon said in a statement, “We are aware of the mayor’s concerns. We look forward to engaging with FCC staff on this issue. Verizon has always focused on having the best talent to provide the best experiences for our clients.”
Carr said in his letter to Comcast earlier this month that the Commission will take “new action to ensure that any entity that FCC regulates to be with the protection of civil rights set out in the communications act … including any program that promotes unbearable forms of Dei.”
Immediately after taking office on January 20, Trump – who appointed Carr as a chair – issued comprehensive executive orders to dismantle diversity, capital and inclusion programs in the United States and pressured the private sector to join the initiative.

Carr is investigating many media companies.
FCC is considering whether a CBS News interview “60 minutes” with then -President Kamala Harris violates the rules of “news distortion”.
Paramount is seeking FCC approval for a $ 8.4 billion union with Skydance Media.
In January, Carr returned complaints about how Walt Disney’s ABC News moderated the television debate before the election between then President Joe Biden and Trump and NBC, letting Harris appear on Saturday Night Live before the elections.
FCC, an independent federal agency, issues eight -year licenses to individual broadcasting stations, not networks.
