A US judge on Tuesday tend to President Donald Trump’s media company for now in a dispute whether a Senior Brazilian judge illegally censored right -wing voices on social media in the United States.
In a case brought by Trump Media & Technology Group and Rumble video sharing platform, American district judge Mary Scriven said Rumble does not need to agree with the Brazilian judge’s order to remove US -based accounts for a main supporter of former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro.
Trump Media and Rumble had indicted Brazil’s Supreme Court’s justice Alexandre de Moraes on February 19, accusing him of trying to “censor legitimate political discourse in the United States” protected by the first change of the US Constitution, ordering Removal of accounts.
Scriven, however, said Moraes’s order has not yet been implemented, and has not been served in Trump and Rumble media in accordance with international treaties.
As a result, Tampa, Florida -based judge, said Trump Media and Rumble are not obliged to respect Moraes’ orders, making their claim and request for a temporary premature restriction order.
In a statement, Rumble called the order “a full win for the free speech” that sends a strong message to foreign governments that they cannot bypass US law to impose censorship on US platforms. “
Trump media and her lawyers did not respond immediately to requests for comment. The Brazil Supreme Court did not immediately respond to a similar request.
Moraes had ordered Rumble to block accounts belonging to Allan Dos Santos, a digital influencer near Bolsonaro.
DOS Santos lives in the United States and is considered a fugitive in Brazil, where he faces an arrest warrant on probation to spread misinformation and hatred.
Trump Media and Rumble sued several hours after Moraes was asked to consider whether Bolsonaro, a Trump ally, should be arrested for plot to overthrow the Brazil government after losing his 2022 elections.
Trump, a Republican, was also accused of allegations that he tried to overthrow his 2020 presidential election to Democrat Joe Biden. That case has been dropped.
On February 21, the Brazil Supreme Court suspended Rumble, citing its failure to implement court orders.
Rumble’s suspension reflected an elevated suspension against Elon Musk’s X last year.
Moraes has led a crusade against perceived attacks on democracy and the political use of misinformation, attracting the anger of Bolsonaro’s supporters.
Trump owns about 53% of the media Trump, which runs his social platform of truth.
His weight is in a belief supervised by his son Donald Trump Jr. Vice President JD Vance invested in Rumble in 2021.
Scriven was appointed district judge by former President George W. Bush in 2008 after suffering 11 years as a federal magistrate judge.
