Bill Maher suspected that former New York Guardine Andrew Cuomo could overcome the treatment of nursing homes during the Coronavirus pandemic when discussing his aspirations for the mayor.
The “real-time” host spoke to Cuomo’s brother, former CNN Chris Cuomo, the former governor’s offer to the New York City Mayor at Podcast “Club Random” on Sunday. Although Cuomo is leading in voting against other Democratic candidates and current NYC President Eric Adams, who left the party to run as an independent, Maher suggested that his past Covid-19 directives could return to follow him.
“I don’t think he will spend the nursing house thing,” Maher said before suggesting Cuomo should have the matter.

In contrast, Chris Cuomo noted that he believed the scandal would not determine the race, but that there would be pressure coming from the Democrats.
“I think he has a lot of pressure against him within that party,” Chris Cuomo said. “And they will have to make a decision if they want to be in power or they want to police their belief group within their party. I mean, that’s what they have to decide. What are they as parties?”
Andrew Cuomo was set under fire for a controversial directive issued in March 2020 that initially banned the nursing homes from refusing to accept patients who had tested positive for Covid-19. The directive intended to liberate the beds if the hospitals were overloaded, but later withdrew among speculation that it had accelerated explosions and deaths among the state’s most tangible population.
A report issued in March 2022 by the New York State Auditor later revealed that the Cuomo Health Department “was not transparent in his reporting on Covid-19 deaths to nursing homes” and “underestimated the number of deaths in nursing homes up to 50%” during some Pandemia points.
Cuomo eventually resigned in August 2021 following allegations of sexual harassment, which he denies.
In response to the offer for Cuomo Mayor, Adams told reporters that the former governor must “respond” to his role in the deaths of the nursing home.
“I have met some of the family members and the lawyers of the nursing home. There are some things we want to do with them. But he has to answer this question in the footsteps,” Adams replied. “Should it be an automatic disqualification? No, I think it should respond to the tracks, exactly what happened. And I think some of those family members will be eagerly awaiting.”
In a comment to the Fox News Digital, Cuomo’s campaign argued that his original directive was in line with federal guidelines and accused opponents of playing “political games” with the matter.
“More than 1 million Americans died as a result of the Covid pandemic, and our hearts break down to the families of every person who lost a boyfriend – but unfortunately, as IG confirmed, that the pain is armed and politicized for the candidates of DSA may not,” the statement said.
