Sam Altman’s Openai is reported to have considered the purchase of a start -out of former Apple Jony Ive’s teacher for at least $ 500 million.
Ive-known to work with the late Apple Steve Jobs co-founder in many of the company’s most iconic models, including the iPhone-has collaborated with Altman for the development of a hardware device, known as IO Products since 2023.
Now, the chatgpt manufacturer has discussed a “full purchase” of the firm, among other options, information reported on Monday, citing sources with direct knowledge knowledge.
If a deal was to move forward, Openai – which recently secured $ 40 billion in new funding with a $ 300 billion rating – would also integrate the design team working on the device, the report added.
The beginning could find himself in direct competition with Apple, who has promoted heavily integrations for his flag iPhone, but fought to implement advanced technology.
The equipment equipped with it was described as a “personal device”, though information sources said the firm will not yet solve a final model.

Ive and Altman are said to have discussed how such a device would use it for daily tasks such as booking traveling or identifying a specific plant from a photo that exceeded traditional intelligence.
San Francisco-based IO products dumped a pair of main directors of the formerpple: Tang Tan, who led the teams responsible for the design of iPhone and Apple Watch, and Evans Hankey, who took over as Apple’s best designer before leaving in 2023.
