Reporter and author Jonathan Allen said on Tuesday that former President Barack Obama was working against former President Kamala Harris after former President Joe Biden left, defending for an open elementary because he did not think Harris could win.
“President Obama absolutely did not think that Joe Biden should continue, according to our sources close to President Obama,” Allen Msnbc told.
“And he also didn’t want Kamala Harris to be replacement for Biden. He didn’t think it was the best choice for the Democrats, and he really worked behind the scenes for a long time to try to have an open mini-convention, or a mini-parce that led to an open convention.
Allen, a high policy reporter at NBC News, and Amie Parnes, a high political correspondent for Hill, joined MSNBC to discuss their new book set to publish this month, “Fight: Within the Wild Battle for the White House”.
“As it turned out, she didn’t win, but he was really working against her,” Allen continued.
Allen also said that Obama was not ready to approve Harris when he talked to the vice president on Biden’s day left.
Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama finally approved Harris, but their support came five days after the president announced that she was coming out and approved Harris himself.
“At one point, he had set a call with the congressman [James] Clyburn of South Carolina on the day Joe Biden handed him over to Kamala Harris, and Obama had set a call with Clyburn for about 5:30 that afternoon. And Clyburn thought with himself, this guy will try to leave me in the open congress, I better get my approval of Harris there quickly, so this is a brief conversation, “Allen said.
The Obama and Harris offices did not immediately return the comment requests.
The book, according to a passage published by The Hill, also details how Biden repeatedly asked Harris not to share with him publicly in his administration’s policies.
“But the day of the debate Biden called to give Harris some kind of unusual conversation – and another reminder of the loyalty he sought. He was no longer able to defend his record, he expected Harris to defend his heritage,” the authors Allen wrote.

“Whether she won or lost the election, he thought, she would only hurt her by publicly distancing herself from her – especially during a debate that would be viewed by millions of Americans. To the extent she wanted to create her way, Biden had no interest in giving her the room to do so.”
Biden told Harris, “not day of day, Kid”, during their phone call before the debate, according to the passage of the book.
Harris was criticized throughout her campaign not to break up with the president for more issues as she took his place at the top of the Democratic Ticket.
At one point, she told the “appearance” that she couldn’t think of anything she would have done different from Biden during his first term.
