It is safe to say that many of us can afford to spend a little less time climbing our phones and much more time moving our bodies.
But getting our daily steps is not an easy task – that is why some people rely on the challenges made to motivate themselves to go on a simple walk.
Paul English, co-founder of the Kayak travel search engine, is here to help with his re-steppin app.
The app is designed to help curb screen time and promote exercises by limiting any website or application of your choice until you have “earned” access through your steps.
Free available on the App Store and Google Play, “the app operates smoothly with the integrated trace of the iPhoneâ and also integrates with a wide range of fitness trackers through Apple Health,” English told The Post.
According to English, Steppin works with all social applications. You can decide which one of the ones to be limited after you have set your account.
“First, you need to choose the time you want to use whenever you get into a limited, social or otherwise app,” English explained.
“When that time is over, our block screen appears and you have to choose the time to use again,” he continued.
“If you have finished completely available time, the block screen appears again and will remain until you have walked enough to win some time on the screen.”
So far, users are loving it.
English said the reactions “have been extremely positive, people love the idea of earning their movement time.”
“Many users tell us that they will not even use the time they won because the app is moving their minds, making them more present in the real world instead of glowing on their phones.”
However, some people can be a little more resistant to movement – literally – than others.
“Our research shows that General Z struggles with the dependence of the phone and social media more than any other generation,” English said.
Indeed, a 2022 Gallup survey revealed that 58% of Americans believe they are on their own phones – for General Z, this figure was closest to 80%.
Experts say that a long time on the screen can adversely affect mental health by increasing depression, anxiety and feelings of loneliness or envy – especially in young people.
Meanwhile, walking is so good for you studies show that doing it for just 150 minutes a week can reduce the risk of premature death by 31%.
The good news is that hope lies in consciousness. Knowing the risks and rewards of phone addiction and physical activity, it seems that children can take steps in the right direction.
According to English, while General Z may be the most screen -dependent generation, “they are also more aware of him and much motivated to change their habits for the better. So far, the response from General Z has been extraordinary, they are dear Stepp.”
It is a great start for a company that wants to hit the ground running.
“We are really trying to show that Stepa is not just an app, but a move that is teaching us how to get rid of the punishment and take our time,” he said.
