CNN’s Jake Tapper is co-author of a new book detailing the length in which the Biden administration and its allies engaged in a “cover” of the cognitive fall of Joe Biden-though the anchor himself dismissed concerns about the then president’s era.
Tapper was discovered on social media earlier this week after the publisher of Penguin Press announced that “The Lead” veteran anchor and correspondent Axios Alex Thompson co -author a book entitled “Sin Original: President Biden’s Reain, his coverage and his catastrophic choice to run again.”
Ex users emphasized that Tapper often made aside the suggestions that verbal bidel gaffes and physical obstacles were signs of advanced aging-instead of accepting the administration’s claims that the then president suffered from stuttering.
In 2020, Tapper interviewed Lara Trump, President Donald Trump’s bride who said Biden was showing signs of “cognitive fall” while campaigning for the presidency.
“How do you think you make young kids with stutters feel when you see you make such a comment?” Tapper asked Lara Trump in the 2020 interview.
“I think you have absolutely no attitude to diagnose someone’s cognitive decline.”
In 2022, Biden gave a state of the state of the Union in which he mistakenly referred to the Ukrainians as “Iranian”.
In analyzing the speech afterwards, Tapper said: “Considering his talent and challenges of speaking, it was a very strong performance.”
The reaction on social media was harsh.
“Joke Affairs”, the former white house secretary Sean Spicer observed X. “Tapper and @cnn covered the fall of Biden and now you guys want to take advantage of it.”
“This is like doing a crime and then investigating yourself for that crime,” wrote Collin Rugg, who added: “If he was serious to expose the cover, he could simply report what he did and did not do between 2021 and 2024.”
Sean Davis, a conservative commentator, wrote on X: “Tapper could have exceeded Biden’s mental disability coverage at any time in the last four years. But he did not.”
“He waited until Biden had disappeared before trying to get rich for discovering the facts he claimed were lies all the time Biden was in office,” Davis wrote.
The book, which will be released on May 20, bears the title “Original Sin” to describe what the authors see as the original mistake that led to the fall of Democrats in the latest elections-Biden’s decision to run for re-election, despite the visible signs of its fall.
“What you will learn makes President Biden’s decision to run for re-election, seem shocking narcissistic, self-dedicated and reckless-a desperate bet that went to the bust and part of a greater act of prolonged public fraud that has some precedents,” Penguin said in a press release.
Biden, “His family and his old aide were so convinced that only he can beat Trump again, they lie to himself, the allies and the public about his condition and limitations,” according to a press release.
“Tony Morrison once said” If there is a book you want to read, but it is not written yet, then you have to write it, “Jake Tapper said in a statement.
“This is what inspired this book: We wanted to know more about what we all just lived. More than 200 interviews later, Alex and I have a much better idea. And soon you will all do.”
Tapper and Thompson observe that “what the world saw in a debate of Joe Biden and the only one was not an abnormality – was not cold, there was someone under or superfluous, there was no one who was just a little tired.”
“It was the natural result of an eighty -one -year -old man whose faculties had been reduced for years,” the co -authors wrote.
“Biden, his family and his team allowed their own interest and fear of another TRUMP term justify trying to put an elderly man several times in the Oval Office for another four years,” the authors writes.
“What was its extension? Was a coverage? Was it a plot? We will allow the facts to speak for themselves. “
During his presidency, Biden faced growing concerns about his cognitive health, especially because of his age.
At 78, he was the oldest president who took office.
Throughout his term, the frequent verbal bidan gifs, moments of confusion and physical obstacles promoted speculation about the cognitive decline.
The White House claimed that he was in good health, but reports suggested that assistants carefully managed his schedule to limit unspoiled interactions.
Concerns intensified during the 2024 election cycle, especially after a poor performance of the June debate, where Biden appeared confused and fought to provide clear answers.
The debate, which was broadcast on CNN, was moderated by Tapper and network colleague Dana Bash.
This led to the call for him to withdraw from the race, as surveys showed that many voters suspected his ability to serve another mandate.
A report by special adviser Robert Hur in early 2024 highlighted the mistakes of his memory, describing Biden as a “charming, elderly man with poor memory”.
The increasing pressure eventually led Biden to withdraw from the 2024th July race in July, adopting Kamala Harris, the then Voice President who continued to lose elections for Donald Trump.
Many analysts believe that previous recognition of these issues may have improved the chances of Democrats to maintain the White House.
