Former Obama adviser Van Jones praised President Donald Trump for his newly appointed “pardon”, Alice Marie Johnson.
On Thursday, Trump named Johnson, a woman he pardoned during his first term, as “pardon Czar” during a black history month event in the White House. Johnson had previously been convicted of non -violent drug trafficking in Memfis, Tennessee and, after serving 21 years, her eternal sentence was realized by Trump.
Jones praised the president for this latest meeting as he spoke to liberal commentator Donny Deutsch on Monday in Monday’s Podcast episode “on brand”.
“He put Mrs. Alice Johnson – the previously imprisoned black woman, whom he liberated while working with Kim Kardashian – he simply placed her on top of prayers. That’s great,” Jones said. “Someone who has actually been imprisoned, has been in the federal system, understands how the Department of Justice Vida on the people who have to come home – some people who should not come home – but many people who have to return home, and they are deceived by the office of forgiveness. She will fix it.”
“As someone who has worked with criminal justice, as you know, for 30 years, to have someone who is a previously imprisoned person, in charge of passing all these apologies and making sure people get a fair blow – I think this is a very good thing,” he continued.
Deutsch quoted a post that Jones wrote in late January when he said: “Trump’s heart can be affected. He has been moved, many times to help reduce individuals – whether in his employment or in federal prisons (the act of the first step). So do not assume that moral complaints can never work with Trump.”
Jones stood next to his words describing Trump’s first mandate in office, saying Trump brought previously imprisoned individuals to the White House and allowed them to speak at press conferences. “I don’t remember Biden or Obama or Clinton doing anything from distance like this.”
However, Jones still had criticism of Trump.
“Now I think we are on a five -alarm fire and I would be in contravention, with fury even with my boyfriend Barack Obama doing these things. We have a system. It is not perfect, but it is created to work in a special way so that you do not have a king, you have no one who has uncontracted power, and he is right, he said,” he said.
Johnson has spoken positively about her role in Trump’s administration, telling Fox News how eager to start.
“I plan to fulfill the confidence the president has decided on me,” Johnson said. “He has given me specific march orders and, in fact, I have worked on this without stopping since my release. This is really a continuation of the work I have already done. I have brought many pardons to the President in the past and one thing I can say about President Trump [is]He was very interested in their families. He wanted to know if they have a sustainable regeneration program. “
