The restructuring coincides with broader financial pressures at the MSNBC, which is being distributed by the parent company NBCuniversal.

The network is looking for cost savings measures, reflecting CNN’s latest movement to rest 200 employees under its new chief executive, Mark Thompson, who has aggressively pressure on a stronger digital strategy.

Sources in Washington, DC, have expressed private concerns that the new roles MSNBC is posting may be largely based on New York, where wage rates per hour negotiated by the Union are reported to be lower.

Employees worry that accepting new positions may require shift, further complicating their employment status.

The uncertainty about the changes has left a lot of staff to the advantage.
