President Donald Trump Media & Technology group and Rumble video sharing platform set up an urgent move in a US court against Brazil’s Supreme Court justice Alexandre de Moraes, firms said in a statement Sunday.
On Friday, justice ordered the suspension of the Video Platform in the South American country until it complies with court orders, as companies plaints MORAES at the US District Court in Tampa on charges of illegal censorship.
The Brazil Supreme Court did not immediately respond to a commentary request.
The motion seeks to halt orders issued by the judge, as they said Mora’s decisions “violate American sovereignty, US Constitution and US laws”.
In a statement, firms said Moraes threatened criminal charges against Rumble Director General Chris Pavlovski.
Moraes, who also directed the country’s clash with Elon Musk’s X, ordered the suspension of Rumble’s service until the firm appoints a legal representative for Brazil, as the law requires foreign companies to operate in the country.
Moraes also ordered the payment of fines pending and blocking Allan Dos Santo’s account, a digital influencer near former right-wing Jair Bolsonaro, and ordered the suspension of profit of his profile.
DOS Santos, who currently lives in the US, is considered a fugitive in Brazil and is under investigation on the alleged speech of hatred and the spread of false information.
Moraes has led a crusade for perceived attacks on democracy and political use of disinformation, especially under the government of Bolsonaro, drawing anger from those such as owner X in the process.
