By 2028, the city of Orlando, Florida, could resemble scenes from “Blade Runner” and “Fifth Element” – with traffic from flying cars buzzing up.
Orlando International Airport this week revealed that it has sought partners that can help it develop release and landing pads for “jetsons”-flying macchin called “Vertiport”, Arcamax reported.
The Great Aviation Authority Orlando will set offers for the project next month, according to the exit.
“We envision the airport to be a multimodal center of the future,” said Mayor Orlando Buddy Doors, a member of the aviation authority.
“It means expanding the sunrail to the airport, the bright line from there to Tampa and make sure we have read the airport as a future vertihub.”
The door said the new center made sense for the city airport and added that Orlando was at the forefront of advanced air mobility – the technology behind flying cars.
“You can not have just one vertical at the airport, you have to have places for vehicles to go from the airport to downtown Orlando or Tampa,” Arcamax Doors told.
“I think that before we look at ‘Jetsons’, it will develop slowly.”
The small aircraft will fit up to six passengers and finish electricity. They would also be removed and sitting vertically, the exit reported.
The door said Orlando will work on the project with the Federal Aviation Administration.
The first vertical will be built on the land located at the eastern airport of the airport.
The Great Aviation Authority Orlando has not yet established a budget for the Verticort project.
This marks the third attempt by the airport to create a vertical.
A contract was introduced in 2020 between Lilium, a German flying car manufacturer and Lake Nona Tavistock developer, with flying machines in the country until 2025.
A year later, Orlando partnership with NASA to analyze how advanced air mobility could be integrated into the city. This agreement was never gone down to Earth, according to Arcamax.
