Anchor of CNN Anderson Cooper and former New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu engaged in a tense exchange in the air on Tuesday, pending a remark from Cooper that went viral quickly: “Don’t be advertised.”
The lit discussion occurred during a CNN panel analyzing the Elon Musk’s Oval Oval Office Conference with President Trump.
Musk, who acted as an informal adviser who heads the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), used the conference to highlight what he claimed were cases of excessive and mismanaged federal spending.
Sunnu defended Musk’s claims, arguing that they shed light on long concerns about government waste and corruption.
During the discussion, Sunnu stressed that Musk had offered “specific examples from the top of his head where corruption and fraud were”, including the claim that social security funds were still being paid to a person who was suspected to have been dead for 150 years
However, Cooper pushed her back, criticizing Musk for failing to provide any supporting test.
“He did not present any current evidence,” Cooper said, stressing that Musk’s statements had no verification.
Sununu objected by asking if Cooper expected Musk to “enter 10,000 pages” documents to support his claims.
The conversation escalated when Cooper tried to relocate the discussion on the latest fire of the Trump administration of four employees of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
Employees were dismissed on allegations that they used federal funds to housing migrants in New York City hotels.
Musk had also weighed the controversy, posting on X (once Twitter) that FEMA had spent $ 59 million to place immigrants in “luxury” hotels.
Sunnu captured Cooper’s remarks.
“You are talking about the female money that was abused for migrants. That was the female money for migrants. This is okay now? “He asked.
Cooper, appearing frustrated, shot back: “I am not saying it is fine. Don’t put the words in my mouth.”
Sunnu press further. “So would you stop it? Would you stop that process? “
At that moment, Cooper lost his patience. “Don’t be ad – k,” he said. “What I am saying is portrayed by him [Musk] It is simply not actually accurate. “
After the sharp exchange, Cooper later apologized to Sunnu, admitting that his tone had been inappropriate. “I was told. I was rude with you,” he admitted.
However, Sunnu rejected lightly, choosing to keep the moment with light. “Are you kidding? I grew up with seven brothers and sisters – I’m a Sunnu. I am a former -governor. You want to know how I am called normally? “He joked.
He then added, “Open after eight. Have fun with CNN.”
However, Cooper remained firm. “I don’t want to do it,” he replied.
A CNN spokesman refused to comment. The post has requested comment from Sunnu.
The incident comes after the editorial stance of CNN under the new CEO Mark Thompson continues to attract attention-after the low-value news network fights to continue in the ratings rating against Fox News and MSNBC competitors.
According to reports, Thompson has instructed CNN reporters, including Cooper and the anchor of Jake Tapper’s friends, avoid “trump judgment” Trump.
During a virtual editorial meeting held prior to inauguration, Thompson is said to have stressed the importance of neutral attitude in political coverage and discouraged network figures from reviewing past controversy, including Trump’s legal battles.
He also called on journalists to depart from the expression of personal anger, marking a change in CNN’s approach to cover Trump and its constant influence on American politics.
Thompson recently removed the anchor Jim Acosta in a midnight time slot – making Trump’s long incentive to give up and start his newspaper on the substance platform.
CNN insights clashed this action – accusing Thompson of Jettisoning Acosta in order to deceive the favor with Trump.
