Amazon is set to extract his long-awaited service-delayed-the service of the voice of artificial generating intelligence Alexa, said three people familiar with the matter, and has planned a press event for later this month to see it.
Once released, it would mark the most important update of the product as its initial presentation accelerated a wave of digital assistants more than a decade ago.
Amazon on Wednesday sent Press invitations to an event to be held on February 26 in New York, presenting the head of its equipment and services, Panos Panay.
A spokesman said the event is focused on Alexa while refusing to elaborate.
AI’s new generating Alexa Alexa immediately represents a great opportunity for Amazon, which has more than half a billion-billion Alexa-activated devices, and a tremendous danger.
Amazon is hoping that the reconstruction, designed to be able to talk to users, can turn several of hundreds of millions of users into customers who pay in an effort to generate a return to unprofit business.
The service will be able to respond to numerous requests in the sequence and, company executives have said, even acting as an “agent” on behalf of users by taking actions for them without their direct involvement. This runs counter to the current repetition, which generally deals only with a single request at a time.
Leaders have planned a meeting, known as “Go/No-Go”, for February 14th.
There they will make a final decision on the “willingness of the road” of he generating reconstruction, according to people and an internal planning document seen by Reuters.
Alexa’s reconstruction carries with it all the natural challenges in the generating chatbots of it now generating by Openai, the alphabet and others, including the possibility of fabricated responses, known as hallucinations.
With access to Alexa available on cars, televisions, thermostats and mobile phones, it can become an essential daily tool for assignment and even purchases.
Initially, Amazon plans to extract the new Alexa service for a limited number of users and will not charge for it, people said, though it has considered a monthly fee of $ 5 to $ 10.
The company will also continue to offer what it is calling “Alexa Classic”, the widely available version today.
One of the people said Amazon has interrupted by adding new offers to classical Alexa.
While Apple’s Voice Assistant preceded Alexa’s release in 2014 for three years, the Amazon service prevailed the acceptance of sound assistants.
But for many, Alexa is now used for a little more than kitchen timer and weather updates due to lack of significant repairs in recent years.
Alexa is the mind of Amazon’s founder Jeff Bezos, who envisioned a service that would resemble voice activated computers on TV Star Trek.
The hope was that once perfect, users would turn to the voice assistant for hundreds of daily tasks such as lighting lights, oven delight, internet access, music playing, writing emails and calling taxis.
“One day in the future – this can be years or decades away – it can answer everything you will ever ask for,” said Amazon’s then chief of equipment, Dave Limp, said nearly a decade ago.
With those severe expectations, measures to improve Alexa has suffered delays in concerns about the quality and speed of her responses, people familiar with the issue have told Reuters.
Amazon called the new “Banyan” service inside, as well as “prominent Alexa”, though it was not immediately clear whether Seattle’s company planned to use or as a new product name.
In a January Financial Times interview, Amazon Rohit Prasad’s executive accepted some of the obstacles to developing what is effectively a new service, including the work to eliminate hallucinations.
Analysts at the Bank of America estimate Amazon can generate $ 600 million a year if 10% of active users, which estimates at about 100 million devices, pay $ 5 per month for the service.
