The famous rapper Snoop Dogg lost more than 500,000 followers on Instagram followers and almost 20,000 on X after his appearance at the Crypto Ball, a festive event associated with the inauguration of Donald Trump.
The “Gin and Juice” singer’s Instagram dropped 571,800 and 17,177 on X as fans accused Snoop of hypocrisy over his past criticism of Trump.
Snoop Dogg, who boasted 88.1 million Instagram followers as of Monday, isn’t the only A-list celebrity to have followers abandon him in a move over perceived support for the Republican president.
Kim Kardashian, the reality TV star and entrepreneur, lost nearly 150,000 social media followers after she posted an image of First Lady Melania Trump wearing a chic outfit to the inauguration.
Snoop Dogg’s performance on January 17 drew a significant reaction from fans and commentators, according to social media marketing firm ViralyFTM which analyzed the drop.
Critics pointed to his previous anti-Trump stance and speculated that financial incentives may have motivated his participation.
“Shaking and crying as I remove Snoop Dogg on all platforms,” wrote one alienated fan on X, adding “Face Sad” emojis.
“How can he bring us back?” The fan wrote.
Another Snoop fan complained: “Gotta Unlavely anyone who performs for Trump. Play me some Snoop Dogg but I gotta go bro. “
“Damn I had to open Snoop Dogg today smh he broke my heart,” wrote one user X.
In response to the criticism, Snoop Dogg addressed the issue on Instagram live, saying, “You can’t hate enough for me. I love it so much … still a black man, still 100 percent black.”
Notably, other artists like Nelly and Carrie Underwood also attended inauguration-related events—a trend that signals a more nuanced approach by entertainers eager to separate politics from professional engagements.
Last year, Snoop Dogg warmed to Trump, telling the Sunday Times: “Donald Trump? He hasn’t done anything bad to me.”
“He has only done great things for me. He forgives Michael Harris. “
During Trump’s first term, he cleared Michael “Harry O” Harris, co-founder of Death Row Records, who had served a 25-year-to-life sentence for drug trafficking and attempted murder.
Snoop Dogg and others lobby for Harris’ purity.
Kardashian, who counts Ivanka Trump as a friend, successfully lobbied the then-president in 2018 to commute the life sentence of Alice Marie Johnson, who was incarcerated for drug treatment.
The post requested comment from Snoop Dogg.
