The liberal hosts behind “Pod Save America” trashed President Biden’s Jan. 6 Washington Post op-ed as “nonsense” and blasted Democrats for “virtue-making” after Vice President Kamala Harris certified Donald Trump’s election Monday .
“There’s a whole language that Democrats should just throw in the trash like ‘institutions,’ ‘democracy,’ ‘this sacred,'” said Jon Favreau, who served as one of former President Barack Obama’s writers. of words.
Biden warned Monday that America risks a repeat of the Jan. 6, 2021, riots at the Capitol if the day’s history is forgotten, and called on the country to “commit to remembering” the incident every year.
“But we must not forget. We must remember the wisdom of the proverb that any nation that forgets its past is doomed to repeat it. We cannot accept a repeat of what happened four years ago,” Biden wrote.
Podcast co-host and former Obama speechwriter Jon Lovett claimed that Biden misunderstood the quote about history repeating itself, coined by philosopher George Santayana, and went so far as to compare Biden to a “stubborn old man.”
“If you’re too steeped in the past, if you become, this is from the original philosophy, stubborn as an old man, you also become doomed to repeat yourself,” Lovett said.
“That’s pretty on the nose,” said co-host and former Obama spokesman Tommy Vietor.
The hosts blasted the op-ed as out of touch with the American electorate, admitting that most voters “didn’t care” about the events of January 6.
“Biden’s op-ed didn’t say anything,” Favreau said. “An op-ed for January 6 is the perfect summation of how uncomfortable everything feels right now.”
The Democratic Party has faced growing calls to change the way it communicates with voters, with critics claiming it relies on overly “woke” and academic rhetoric that alienates ordinary people.
Clinton campaign alum James Carville called on Democrats to tone down the “idiotic NPR jargon” when talking to voters in an interview Sunday with MSNBC host Jen Psaki.
“Let’s just be authentic and accurate,” Carville said.
The hosts continued to take issue with Biden’s opinion for failing to offer any concrete steps to combat what they see as a “punch attempt” by Trump.
“Our party is a sad op-ed,” Vietor said.
“Virtue-democrats, repeatedly explaining why the insurgency is so terrible, didn’t work. This style of politics doesn’t work,” Lovett said.
Vietor claimed the piece made him “very frustrated with Joe Biden running for re-election again.” The trio was part of the liberal pressure campaign against the president to drop out of his re-election bid after a miserable debate against Trump in June.
Although there were indications during his first term that Biden was experiencing a decline, Democrats and the mainstream media often covered up his declining mental state.
“His mental darkness is great. It’s good. It’s as good as it’s been in years. All this right-wing propaganda that his mental acuity has declined is wrong,” then-Sen. Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., told “Meet The Press” in February.
Vietor called Biden and his close aides “delusional,” after which the Washington Post reported that they believed he would have won the election if he had stayed in the race.
In a November episode of the podcast, Favreau claimed that Biden’s internal polls had him losing the election by “400 electoral votes.”
Biden is not the only Democratic politician facing accusations that he is deaf. After Harris’ campaign bosses appeared on a November post-mortem episode of Pod Save America, listeners accused them of “not taking responsibility” for her loss.
