Elon Musk reportedly wants to build a secret family compound for two of the three mothers of his 11 children – although only one has so far agreed to move.
The Tesla CEO has reportedly bought two large homes in a leafy section of Austin, Texas, within walking distance of each other — paying $35 million for the two properties, including a 14,400-square-foot mansion square meters resembling a Tuscan villa and one with six bedrooms. house directly behind her, according to The New York Times.
Musk has also purchased a third home that is a short walk from the other two, the newspaper reported.
The billionaire was so keen on secrecy that he made property sellers sign non-disclosure agreements before submitting an offer, according to the Times.
Musk was also willing to pay top dollar — offering up to 70% more than the homes would have sold for on the market, it was reported.
Tesla’s boss has spoken publicly about the need for people to have more children to avoid population decline.
According to the Times, he even went so far as to offer his sperm to friends and acquaintances, including Nicole Shanahan, the ex-wife of Google co-founder Sergey Brin.
Shanahan, who has vehemently denied reports that she had an affair with Musk, turned down the mogul’s offer of his sperm, according to the Times.
So far, Shivon Zilis, the Neuralink executive and mother of his three children who was inseminated with Musk’s sperm via in vitro fertilization, has moved into the compound, according to the Times.
Grimes, the Canadian pop star whose legal name is Claire Boucher, is the mother of Musk’s three children. The two are in a custody dispute over their children.
Justine Musk, Musk’s first wife, is the mother of his five children. Neither Grimes nor Justine Musk lived at the complex as of Tuesday.
By the summer of 2023, Musk had been living with Grimes in a 6,900-square-foot house in Austin. Around that time, they welcomed their third child, a son, via surrogate.
According to the Times, Musk wanted to buy the property next door in order to create a private compound that would house more of his children.
But Grimes left the house a short time later. The Canadian singer was reportedly upset about Musk’s relationship with Zilis.
In 2021, Musk donated sperm to Zilis without Grimes’ knowledge, right around the same time the mogul and his pop star girlfriend were expecting a second child, carried by a surrogate, according to the Times.
Zilis gave birth to twins in late 2021 — just weeks before Grimes’ daughter was born, according to Musk’s biography written by author Walter Isaacson.
Grimes learned Musk had fathered Zili’s children a month after Zili’s twins were born, the newspaper reported.
The singer was further alienated by the fact that Musk named one of the daughters born to Zilis the name Valkyrie, which is said to be the name the mogul and Grimes chose for their daughter, according to the Times.
Zilis ended up changing her daughter’s name while Grimes chose a different name for her child.
“A damn girl with my daughter’s name will now carry her mother’s shame,” Grimes wrote in a since-deleted tweet.
At the time of the children’s birth, both Grimes and Zilis were living in Austin and co-parenting with Musk.
But Grimes left town in the summer of 2023 after filing a legal action against Musk seeking custody of their children.
Despite Grimes’ departure, Musk continued to amass properties that were next to each other in hopes of fulfilling his vision of a compound where his 11 children could live together.
Justine Musk first met Elon Musk when they were students at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario, Canada.
They married in January 2000 after moving to the San Francisco Bay Area, where Elon Musk made his first millions after selling internet startup Zip2.
The couple welcomed their first son, Nevada Alexander Musk, in 2002, but lost him to sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) at 10 weeks old.
The couple went on to have a set of twins – Griffin and Xavier Musk – in 2004 and a set of triplets – Kai, Saxon and Damian Musk – in 2006, for a total of five children.
One of the children, Vivian, 20, was born a biological male. She later transitioned to female.
Vivian is estranged from her father, who says she is “dead” after being “killed by the smart mind virus.”
Elon Musk, Grimes, Justine Musk and Zilis were not available for comment.
