Welcome to October, my babies! With a new moon solar eclipse in Libra on Oct. 2, a retrograde Jupiter, and father Pluto dead direct at the Capricorn midmoon, the spooky season doesn’t deserve to be light or bloated this year.
We’ll spend most of this month, until October 22nd, under the velvety, balmy beauty, anesthetic romance of Libra.
Symbolized by scales and balances, Libra is the only zodiac sign represented by an inanimate object. As the sign of partnership, Libra is defined and expressed in and through its relationship with others.
While last month’s lunar eclipse in Pisces was a time of revelatory conclusions, the new moon solar eclipse in Libra on the 2nd can bring up and push forward people and themes from the past.
As the brilliant astrologer Evan Nathaniel Grim of Inner Worlds Astrology tells The Post, “This solar eclipse is about the South Node, which is more of a liberating energy, more of a cleansing energy, more of a reflective energy.
“It’s not a Mercury retrograde, but because Mercury is conjunct the South Node, it can feel like one. There is a re-evaluation of a partnership that may have ended or started last October or March,” says Grim. “Of course we have to give up because every beginning has an end and vice versa. So I don’t think people should expect the eclipse to be specifically an end or a beginning, but a transition and a change in perception.”
On October 9, Jupiter—our drunken uncle planet of luck and good news—will begin its solemn four-and-a-half-month retrograde in Gemini.
Two days later, Pluto, our planet of transformation, the father of death, moves direct into the major late degrees of Capricorn for the last time in our lives.
The somewhat conflicting energies of Gemini and Capricorn may cause us to vacillate between extremes in the coming weeks: the drive toward inner work and the urgent need to prove our purpose.
Mercury, planet of the mind and mouth, communion and clay, will be in the still air of Libra for the first part of the month. This transit encourages diplomacy and reason, giving conversations a level of refinement and a general sense of resolution over anger.
However, it’s not all politeness and pity.
Mars, our planet of conflict and action, will continue to be a colicky baby in Cancer, the sign of the planet’s fall. This transit signals the need to nest, and in some cases, that nest is made of bare wood, raw feelings, buttons, doubts, exhausted stuffed animals, self-sabotage, frayed apron strings, and anxious attachments.
Mars in Cancer challenges us to wade through this mud and muck with confidence, objectivity and effectiveness. Resist the urge to blame and/or revert to teenage tendencies—and remember, when it comes to gas and excitement, this too shall pass.
Come mid-month, Mercury, the planet of the mind, and Venus, our planet of love and attraction, will both be moving with glass in hand, bosom from the silk robe and tracking device at the ready in Scorpio. All signs are likely to experience the effects of these transits, which may manifest as an increased desire to explore the taboo or a serious step toward doubt.
Venus + Mercury in Scorpio = haunted house energy, but alert: that house is your dark heart.
When the planet of love finally climbs out of the coffin and into Sagittarius’ quiver on October 17, what once seemed heavy can still turn into hope.
Also, on October 17th, we welcome the Full Hunter Moon in Aries. This dense concentration of firepower can easily translate into gunfire, arguments and anxiety.
Neither archers nor rams are noted for their delicacy or tact. Thus, under the sharp light of this moon, sacred silence and self-searching overcome explosive expression.
On the 22nd, the sun enters the body cave of scorpio, setting the stage for stillness and reminding us of the rewards reaped from going in and digging deep, clawing for truth and source until our eyes cross and our blades find pain the payment.
Read on to see how the coming weeks will affect your sign. Good luck there.
